Famous Supreme Court case: According to the Supreme Court in the Arlington Heights case, plaintiffs must show only “that a discriminatory purpose has been a motivating factor in the decision,” not that race was a predominant factor. Village of Arlington Heights v. Metropolitan Housing Corp., 429 U.S. 252, 265-66 (1977). Unfortunately, the court did not have before it evidence of Arlington Heights as a sundown town.
Famous race track. Blacks have long played major roles with horse racing, but could not stay in Arlington Heights at night.
No longer sundown, but black % is still low. Interim census info. in 2005 showed fewer than 500 blacks in Arlingon Heights, about 0.5%.
