Of the 78 African Americans reported in the 1990 census, all were between the ages of 18 and 34, indicating that probably no black families live in Ada.
Of the 27 African Americans reported in 1970, 20 were male, also indicating that there may have been fewer families than suggested by the total population.
Further research needed.
One explanation for the 1990 census we were given via email links the unusual age distribution to Ohio Northern University, located in Ada: “I suspect the reason for the odd age distribution for blacks in the 1990 census is that Ada is home to Ohio Northern University. Undergraduates living on campus would have been counted in their home towns, but some undergraduates living off campus might have been counted in Ada and there is a small law school, the students of which almost certainly would have been considered Ada residents and nearly all of whom would have been in the 18-35 age group.”
