Comments

Testimony of a former resident:
“I have another candidate for your pool of possible ‘all white’ towns–Williamsburg, Ohio. It is in Clermont County–the county to the east of Cincinnati / Hamilton County.
I was born in 1955 and grew up in Williamsburg, Ohio. I still have connections there since my 79 years old father has lived in Williamsburg all of his life.
To my knowledge, there have never been any blacks living within the boundaries of the township. The children of one black family attended the school for a few years when I was in elementary school but they actually lived in Afton, an even smaller township on the edge of Williamsburg.
Even today, with an automotive plant on the edge of town, I’m not aware of any blacks living in Williamsburg.
A very small African American community in Clermont County seems to have gathered in Batavia, Ohio. When I was growing up, Batavia was the only school in our league for smaller schools with blacks on their sports teams. Glen Este, also in Clermont County, had a few blacks on their teams but they were larger and in a different league.”
