“As a child I remember the book that mapped where “Colored People” could stay. Daddy was a policeman, and he and Momma traveled to VA, PA, NY and CT.
He told me about swimming from Huntington, WV to Chesapeake, OH and there was a sign, ‘Nigger run and if you can’t read this – run anyhow.'”
