A current resident reports that Duke Ellington came to Caro to play at the county fair (late 30s or 40s) and couldn’t stay in Caro overnight. He drove to Saginaw to find a place. The source never saw a city ordinance, but remembers it was a well known fact that no one could house an African American over night.
