Despite a mountain of problems with hi new $125,000 home in Ridgefield, Conn,. and harassment from local residents in the nearly all-white town, actor and comedian Godfrey Cambridge vows he is not going to move. Friends have rallied to his aid in his fight to find %u201Cpeace and happiness%u201D in the small New England community.
%u201CI am unimpressed with the ineffectualness of the police department to protect my property and state official have not helped me with problems of structural defects and mixed up records for this house,%u201D he said in an interview. He said he moved to Connecticut from New York%u2019s Upper West side %u201Cwhere all the stars live%u201D to find a measure of safety, peace and happiness. But his experiences since moving into the 14-room ranch styled house in November have been shattering.
%u201CMy car was doused with gasoline as it sat in the driveway, a teenager tried to run my off the road, and daughter was threatened with death if she attended a dance at the school,%u201D Cambridge state. He said people fire guns on his property, stomp outside the house, and use his driveway repeatedly as a turn around spot. %u201CThe same strange cars drive by the house,%u201D he said.
