Comments

Holland was founded by Dutch people in the mid-1800’s and remained at least 90% Dutch for a century. The city recently released a fair housing report showing that African Americans were discriminated against in housing in the city.

“I’ve heard stories that you could be arrested DWB [driving while black] in the ’30s-’50s, though I have no first hand accounts of that. The first blacks residents I see pictures of in Holland were semi pro basketball players in 1955.”
