East Palo Alto has more blacks than whites, and has for some time. Most of the city elected officials are black, including the mayor.

Raymond Jones, a black Navy Petty Officer, sued a real estate firm in East Palo Alto for refusing to sell
him a house. Jones stated “I want a new house, the kind I can afford to buy. They refused my money because I am a Negro.”
