Comments
In 1910, the Williams Cooperage Company opened
in Leslie, causing a population boom. When the
company went bust, much of Leslie’s 5000 citizens
moved, including most of its black population. While
there was some Ku Klux Klan activity in Leslie, it was
largely directed at striking railroad workers.
It is unclear if, after the collapse of Williams
Cooperage, blacks were kept out of Leslie by other
means.
